A 12-year-old boy's odyssey to the birthplace of baseball, to play in a week-long tournament, is told through the eyes of his father, who is blissfully along for the ride. Funny and heartwarming, it is a unabashed love letter from a father to a son, and to the game that binds them together.

In all our anecdotes and collective wisdom about parenting an adolescent, so much is made of what a trying time it is for both the parent and child -- and it is true, of course. But no one talks much about the soaring moments of joy that come when you get a peek into the adult you are raising, when you you see so clearly how it will all pay off in the end, when you really see your child for who he is and what he loves. It is all the more sweet when you see a reflection of yourself, a shared passion, be it for baseball, or books, or something else. No Sleep 'Til Cooperstown is a love story, really, about a dad and his boy, and their shared passion for baseball. The trip of a lifetime -- to play baseball where baseball began -- is the backdrop into one man's little peek into his son's future, to see what his boy is made of. Sweet and poignant, real and witty, this is a lovely story for anyone, but especially so for baseball fans and parents. I heartily recommend it!Product details

No Sleep 'til Cooperstown eBook Sib Ventress Reviews
Loved this story. Great road trip. For anyone who has ever wanted to reconnect with their son (or daughter). Expertly written. So touching. So human.
I picked this up on the encouragement from a friend and am so glad I did. Beautifully written, warm and funny memoir (yet not at all schmaltzy) by a veteran, but currently unemployed television writer about a baseball-themed father/son journey. This book would be of particular interest to fathers of any age and anyone interested in baseball.
I don't have kids. I don't know a damned thing about baseball or most other sports. However, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The story is touching, real, never sappy.
Told from a father's unique point of view, this touching account captures what it feels like to watch your son come of age. Rich in baseball lore and full of humorous moments, the true story of a boy's experience as part of a Cooperstown tournament team reveals what every baseball parent needs to know; as Babe Ruth put it, "It's hard to beat a person who never gives up."
I stopped loving baseball in 1994 when a strike killed an entire season. This book reminded me of all the reasons I so loved the game before it became big business. It is about a father and son who love each other and baseball. They take a magical trip to a tournament in New York where The Boy plays with all the heart of a superstar and the Dad bursts with pride. A lovely, lovely read.
This book is a must read for anyone/any family that has a child playing organized baseball. If you or anyone you know has a child that is 12 years or younger, you need to get them this book. If you spend your weekends at a baseball field, you need to buy this book. If you are lucky enough to be on a team that will or have made the commitment and sacrifice to go play baseball at the birthplace of baseball you need to buy this book! You will find the authors colorful chronicle of his and his son's trip to Cooperstown both entertaining, educational, and may (in my case) mirrors almost the same path that my family and I went through, right up to the fact that I had to deal with needing a new charger for my cell phone, not having enough juice in my phone to take pictures of my son's at bat, to the nasty annoying housemate!
Buy this book for Father's Day or Xmas gift.
A delightful romp into the world of boyhood baseball. All at once, No Sleep 'til Cooperstown is charming, funny, and a bit blue... This touching account of a father and son trip and how dreams really do come true will makes you wish there were more beans in the bowl so that this story would go on and on ... Sib Ventress is a one hell of a talented writer and his son did the number 42 proud... What can I possibly say? The apple doesn't fall far from the tree... I know that his son will cherish this tale for many years to come. Not since A.A. with his tales of Edward Bear and Christopher Robin has a father given such a literary gift to a son...
