The Keswick Reminder on The Bobbin Girls
an informative and lively read
West Briton
Alena Townsen, a fiery tomboy from a large, happy family, wants nothing more than to spend the rest of her life with her childhood friend, Rob, the only son of James Hollinthwaite, a wealthy landowner. Hollinthwaite, however, has other ideas and when he forces the two to part Rob is sent away to school while Alena must start work in the local bobbin mill. Life is hard and her love for Rob severely tested. Torn between two men, her indecision is heightened by the knowledge of a tragic secret. Dolly Sutton has problems of a more intimate nature, while shy and unassuming, Sandra Myers finds herself an unlikely campaigner against Hollinthwaite’s destructive plans for the village when he ruthlessly sacks the man she loves.

This is an excellent book. Ms. light foot has the ability to get right into the mind and soul of her characters. For me there were a few weak spots in the story but I leave other readers to decide that, otherwise I will give the story away. Perhaps there were too many characters but an immensely good read, always a predictably excellent author. Maureen Rowland-Aitken Johannesburg South AfricaProduct details

The Bobbin Girls edition by Freda Lightfoot Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Good book
Another great read from Freda Lightfoot, have read quite a few of her books and enjoyed them all, would recommend this book without hesitation, hard to put down.
I like this author but this particular work is very slow and has not captured my interest like her other novels, actually I have not finished it I went on to read something else.
The Bobbin Girls turned out to be a little gem. I chose it because Id never read about bobbin girls before and wanted to find out more. But once into the story it kept my interest straight to the end. Interesting characters, settings and well written, believable story line. I give this a five star from page one to the very end.
the bobbin girls by Freda Lightfoot. I have come to be a real fan of this writer,I find she has a way of drawing you into the story with the characters and with her style of writing.I have never picked up one of her story's and thought I can't read this as its boring.Looking forward to reading her next one I have in my wish list .
The story is interesting and the characters believable to a point. A good twist added at the end. The story did not support the title of the book as much as it should. Although there were descriptions about the mill and processes and there are minor characters that are bobbin girls but the story centered more around 1 girl and the focus of the story was outside of the mill. A more appropriate title could have been The Bobbin Girl.
I highly recommend this book to those who have enjoyed other books by Freda Lightfoot. Its about practical, hardworking people who manage to stay positive against all the odds. Its about class distinction and the changes taking place in the bobbin and cotton mills due to cheaper imports. There are a few surprising twists from time to time. Most enjoyable.
